2nd Annual Mike Donohoe Memorial Road Race
He had a smile that could light up a room and a heart that knew the joy that comes from giving. His generosity of spirit was known by his community, his colleagues, and most of all his family. He could be seen at the soccer fields, in the school hallways, and within circles of people where his laughter and humility were the tools he used to cultivate friendships and relationships that were grounded in respect and honesty. Whether you were a student in need of guidance and support, or a friend who needed your spirits lifted, Mike Donohoe was the man you could turn to.
How then, could one honor this dedicated colleague, passionate friend, and loving son, brother, husband and father, who in the prime of his life at the age of 54, lost his courageous battle with melanoma? In the spirit that brings together so many of the elements of Mike's life, his friends, family, and community will host the 2nd Annual Mike Donohoe Memorial 5K Run/Walk for Melanoma.
To honor Mike's dedication to fun, fitness, and community, the race/walk is to be held on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 12 noon beginning at the Perley School, in Georgetown.
This 5K is a flat, very fast USATF certified course that will loop through the peaceful neighborhoods of Mike's hometown. To honor Mike's spirit of giving, 50% of the proceeds will fund the newly established Michael J. Donohoe Scholarship Fund. The remaining funds raised will advance the mission of the Melanoma Foundation of New England and its donation of a facial scanner to the Georgetown Public School System.
Please bring your entire family and join us for fun, competition, and prizes as we honor the life of a great man, Michael J. Donohoe.
